National Seminar on Human Rights and Media

In the context of the latest human rights discourses in our country, St. Xavier’s College organized a national seminar on Human Rights and Media in the college Auditorium on 26th October 2016. Jointly organized by the Department of Malayalam & Mass Communication and Media Club with the financial support of the University Grant Commission, this one day national seminar was the fitting finale for the week-long Human Rights Education Programme conducted in the college.

Inaugurated by Honourable Deputy Speaker Mr. V Sashi MLA, the seminar explored different issues pertaining to Human rights and the role of media in today’s modern context. Rev. Fr. V. Y. Dasappan S. J., Principal of the college presided over the inaugural function where the newly modified website of the college was launched. Dr. Sebastian Paul, renowned media critic, Supreme Court lawyer and ex. MP gave the key note address and formally inaugurated the Human Rights Club of the college in front of a tightly packed audience, who comprised students and staff. Well known advocate and former public prosecutor Adv. Celine Wilfred, Human Rights activist Adv. Fr. Pancratius. Dr. Iris Koilieo, Principal Immanuel College, Vazhchal also participated as panelists and gave their expert opinion and viewpoints on the issue. Representing the student community, Mr. Jossiya Pappachan and Mr. Praveen too spoke on the occasion. Finally, Mr. Rajesh M. HOD of the Department of Economics proposed the vote of thanks.
