Mathrubhasha Dinam Celebrated
On the first of November, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the creation of Kerala, the Department of Malayalam & and Mass Communication organized a function to honour Malayalam, our mathrubhasha. Inaugurated by Rev. Dr. Fr. V. Y. Dasappan S. J., Principal of the collegeand presided over by Dr. T. K. Santhosh Kumar, HOD Department of Malayalam, this well-organized programe was a fine blend of serious reflection on the scope of language and some visually entertaining traditional Kerala art forms. The panel discussion that formed part of this programme brought together the language teachers of the college namely Fr. V. Y. Dasappan of the Department of Latin, Dr. S. Surendhran Nair of the Department of Hindi, Dr. T. K. Santhosh Kumar of the Department of Malayalam and Fr. Dominic Joseph S. J. of the Department of English, who all in turn spoke of the interrelatedness of language and the need to making sincere efforts to master more than one in order to expand the horizon of our universe. They all pointed out the need to reserve a special love for ones’ own mother tongue but at the same time not going to the extent of linguistic fanaticism. Mr. Joby John gave the welcomed speech and Mr. Hari Kumar proposed the vote of Thanks. Dr. T. K Santhosh Kumar was specially felicitated for winning the Kerala State Television Awards for his voluminous and much informative work on Kerala Television Charithram.
